Biography

Dr. John Sparco is the Director of Business Analytics and Marketing Programs for the College of Business at 黑料社 in New Castle, Delaware.  Dr. Sparco is the co-founder and current Chair for the Undergraduate Business Analytics Program at 黑料社.  He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from The College of William and Mary in Virginia and an MBA and Ph.D. from the University of Delaware. Dr. Sparco has taught at the Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral levels at 黑料社 on a variety of topics related to statistics and data analytics, business intelligence, research design and measurement, and project management. 

Dr. Sparco founded a GIS consulting firm that provided geographic analysis for state government and private firms, and he spent 4 years at Conrail as a systems programmer in the IT group doing performance tuning and capacity planning of online transaction processing and database management systems. In 1996, he joined QVC where he provided data-guided support in a data-rich environment to Marketing, Distribution & Fulfillment, Call Center Operations, New Business Development, and C-Level and Senior Management decision makers.  He coordinated a team of analysts engaged in high-level quantitative analysis to support multiple areas of QVC’s business and provided statistical consulting to the organization. He finished his 18-year career with QVC as the Senior Manager of the organization’s data analytics team. 

Dr. Sparco is married with a 12-year-old son, Nick.  He enjoys youth coaching where he has coached little league baseball, YMCA basketball, and CYM cross-country.  Generally, he can be found on a field or in a gym coaching or supporting Nick. Dr. Sparco is an avid runner; he runs 1 or 2 half marathons a year and a handful of other shorter races.  He enjoys home brewing – he does not brew as much as he once did but is known to fire up the brew kettle a few times a year.
